What is In Search of Lost Smell?

Early in the COVID pandemic, I lost my sense of smell. It was shocking and thrust me, someone who was 100% not a foodie, onto the path of finding myself again in the kitchen. The daily exploration of flavors and sensations has led me to a keep up a highly active instagram page, and now, this newsletter where I reflect on some of the more surprising discoveries and thoughts during this wild time.

After 19 months (of which you can now track the ups and downs), I did eventually recover my sense of smell, begging the question of whether this blog needs retiring or renaming. For now, I’m forging ahead because if you’ve been a loyal reader, you’ll notice that the search is never really for anything lost, but rather for all that is yet to be gained, sensed, and celebrated.

Why subscribe?

I post 2-3 food snapshots a day on my instagram, and many of those come with long form captions of the feelings that accompany the particular tastes and dishes. Sometimes they get a little HEFTY and a little LONG for Instagram, so this will be my landing place for more thoughtful messages. Subscribe to get this newsletter directly into your inbox, and you can access the archive here at this website too!

Stay up-to-date

If for some reason my daily Instagram spam has not infiltrated your subconscious enough, subscribing will make sure that you definitely get all my updates hand delivered (sort of). Every new edition of the newsletter goes directly to your inbox!
